  1. no they postponed the next two finals (WC2 and MK2) to the start of the next session. heavy wind I assume
  2. no good quality but still https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V-WOh8ZxjI
  3. and Kazakhstan won a close battle with Japan and Uzbekistan to win the Men's C2 quota.
  4. Women's K2 quota goes to .... guess who ? greedy China they beat Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan narrowly. this is China's 2nd string squad. their better athletes are already qualified in WK4.
  5. any chance for a live stream ? or live score ? I assume the answer is no but no hurt in asking
  6. and a bit about Greco 60kg: 5 Asian wrestlers are already qualified and that makes this competition weaker. much weaker. I think Sultangali (KAZ) already won the quota thanks to the draw unless something super crazy happens. and in the bottom half PRK is the clear favorite, the South Korean guy is totally new but he is probably good that they picked him over Kim H.S. still it's easy to say 67kg: top half will be decided between KGZ, PRK and CHN. I think Ismailov will meet Husiyueto in the SF and since they are the host, he will be the favorite there are 4 big names in the bottom half, former World Champ Ryu will meet Sogabe. I think Sogabe will go to the SF against the winner of Atabaev vs Shermakhanmet. it's hard to pick between these 3 guys. my prediction: 77kg: this is a weak filed with only few serious competitors. Zhadrayev has a clean path to the quota. only the Korean might give him a challenge and even that is highly unlikely. in bottom half I expect to see IRN vs CHN for the quota. Kaviani beat this Chinese guy twice recently but it was never easy for him. my prediction: 87kg: the terrible seeding system made the top half much easier. the QF match between CHN vs KOR will decide who is going to Paris. I think China is the clear favorite bottom half is much harder, our guy Mohmadi has to beat KGZ to reach the SF which I think he will. in the other part we will have JPN vs IND first. both of them are good and it won't be easy to predict but still multiple World medalist Berdimuratov (UZB) will be favorite against any of them. I think Mohmadi and Berdimuratov are claerمy the top 2 here but only one of them goes to Paris. I want to be a bit biased here, so I say 97kg: again another unbalanced draw. out of 4 favorites, 3 of them are in the top half. Assakalov has to beat both KAZ and KGZ to qualify, won't be easy and I think his match vs Zhuzupbekov might be 50/50 I still go with Assakalov and his pure technique clearly the first round match between CHN vs KOR will decide the quota with China as the clear favorite (you can never rule out a 1-1 result in heavyweight) 130kg I'm very surprised that Korea is not entering Kim Min-seok, he did good few days ago at the Asian Champs. does it mean the other guy is better than him? I'm going to pick him because of that reason ! but Nesimov (UZB) and even the India Naveen has a chance to beat him. in the bottom half the SF between KAZ and KGZ will be crucial. my prediction:
  7. oh that's terrible . not sure if they have/had to cut weight. maybe that's manageable if they don't but still it's really hard to deal with not-resting enough and cutting weight at the same time. we had the same problems too but fortunately that was only for the officials who wanted to travel later. The wrestlers went to Bishkek earlier
  8. OK, let's take a look at freestyle draws 57kg: the bracket is somehow balanced but the bottom half looks tougher to me no clear favorite in the top half. I think 4 wrestlers have a chance to qualify. Zou (CHN) will face the Kyrgyz wrestler in the QF. and in other QF I expect to see MGL vs IRN. this is clearly our weakest weight and Mohammadnejad has a not-so-easy Russian (representing TJK) in the first round as well. I think any of these 4 wrestlers can qualify. we have 3 clear favorite in the bottom half, Aman (IND) the North Korean and Abdullaev. Aman has to beat Kazakhstan in the first round which is never easy. I always rank Aman very high but PRK in lightweight is something else and this guy won the silver in Hangzhou Asian Games. so I'm trying to not be biased so let's say 65kg: while we have some challengers from KAZ, CHN and the russian mercenary of Bahrain, I think the first round match between Kudiev and Kiyooka will determine the top half quota. Kudiev is a very good Russian (recently bought by TJK) but Kiyooka beat the Olympic Champion Otoguro to make the Japanese team. I'm very very surprised that MGL is not entering the Asian Games Champion Tulga. their new guy is not actually new and he was never impressive. I wonder how come he is #1 and Tulga is #2 !! he will face the host favorite Akmataliev. I think the winner of this match will qualify at the end but we also have Sujeet (IND) , I'm not familiar with him but he beat Bajrang back home. he has a big challenge in the first round against Jalalov (UZB) and last but not least is North Korea. Kim KJ won the bronze at the Asian Games and only lost to Tulga. in summary any of these 5 guys can qualify. this is a very tough weight in Asia. while I know I'm most probably wrong but I say 74kg: there are 5 or 6 quality wrestlers in the top half but I think one between Abdurakhmanov, Toktkomambetov or Asluev will qualify. Abdurakhmanov has a tough first round against the Russian-Tajik Evloev. if he wins I don't the QF will be challenging for him. I still pick the Olympic bronze medalist but I know he is getting old and is beatable now there are two clear favorite, Kaipanov has a clean path to the SF and our Emami also most probably can win his QF with relative ease. Emami and Kaipanov are old rivals. they had couple of controversial matches before. Emami sometimes chokes when you don't expect him to but still I think 86kg: 3 Asian wrestlers are already qualified which makes this a bit easier. but still the draw is quite unbalanced and we have 3 favorite in the top half. Sharipov, Deepak and Ishiguro. I would pick Sharipov but he wrestled few days ago at the Asian Champs (although at 92kg) but still he will be a bit tired so I go with the winner of IND/JPN match, I think Deepak can prevail with his experience but it will be close. in bottom half I don't think the Kyrgyz wrestler can do much so it will be between CHN and MGL. my prediction 97kg: almost all of the favorite are in the bottom half and I think the top half will be between KAZ and CHN (slim chance for Korea) I give it to Yergali but I know the Chinese is well capable of beating him. our Azarpira is the favorite for the quota but he has to face the worst possible opponent in the QF. Arash Yoshida if JPN has an Iranian father. he has the same style as our wrestlers mixing it with few Japanese tricks making him very dangerous. but still he is very young and this is his first serious 97kg competition. we also have Olympic bronze medalist grandpa Ibragimov and the Mongolian. any of these 4 wrestlers can qualify (sorry but I give no chance to India) still I think the top 2 seeds will make it 125kg: two big names in the first half, Deng (CHN) and Monkhtor (MGL) the last time they faced Deng beat the Mongolian narrowly but I think it will be different this time. I see 4 guys capable of winning the quota in bottom half. Sharipov (the new Russian mercenary) looked good at the Asian Champs. he will be the favorite if he is not tired of back to back competitions. the giant Kazakh Batirmurzaev will be his biggest challenge, also Lazarev (KGZ) can be dangerous, he sometimes wins matches when you don't expect. also the former drug cheat Rakhimov is in the mix. I say
  9. Brackets are out (the same link) I will write something about it later but from the first look some of our wrestlers got a bit lucky and some got the toughest possible draw. I'm OK with the draw overall.
  10. This is how ATTU determines its 6th singles quota is it really necessary? the best Asian player in the ranking will qualify through the World Ranking quotas anyway. btw it seems ITTF can never find the best possible format for the qualifiers. I hope they learn one day that they have to award the ranking quotas before the continental qualifiers. I totally understand they have problems with mixed doubles quotas, still they could find a way to deal with it.
  11. all of a sudden some of our #1 in both Rowing and Canoeing decided to retire or take a break after the Asian Games don't know what to expect from this 2nd string team. but I assume winning the W1X quota won't be that hard. LW2X is probably the next best chance.
  12. nothing announced yet, but everybody automatically assumes that's Amini. Khedmati herself still has a chance to win a 50m 3p quota but that's unlikely Iran has an unwritten rule about sending the same shooter to the Olympics. it's just too much drama to send someone else. but that's not a "rule" so I hope they consider sending "the better" athlete. Khedmati is getting much much better results recently and maybe if she wins a medal today, that changes something. btw Amini had a rifle malfunction yesterday, she is not that bad to finish almost last still I would pick Khedmati for sure.
  13. Norouziyan or Norouzian "ian" is also a common suffix for Persian surnames
  14. this is getting interesting https://uww.org/article/uww-sets-two-independent-panels-review-chamizo-bayramov-bout if you ask me Chamizo's 300.000 dollars claim is a lie. I mean maybe someone in the arena really told him such a thing but if you accuse like this you have to give a name, who offered this ? just a random kid in Baku ? I just can't believe they are willing to pay this much for a piece of crap like Bayramov just to win a quota. (which most probably won't be turned into a medal anyway) Cuban wrestlers had a long history of accepting bribes. but Chamizo is not representing Cuba anymore and even Cubans never do it when it comes to the Olympics. it's very interesting they claim they are going to review that "challenge decision" are they going to throw Cicioglu under the buss ? but he made a big mistake, I'm not talking about the call, that wasn't a mistake, that was intentional cheating . but the mistake was doing it under the spotlight, against someone like Chamizo. that didn't worth it, CIcioglu exposed himself and maybe this time he is going to pay. still it's hard for me to predict the outcome. but I won't be surprised if they somehow give a quota to Chamizo without taking Bayramov's
  15. I'm a bit confused here let's consider the HKG player Wong, he won the mixed double quota here, but that doesn't automatically mean he can participate in the singles event too, right ? in this case he has to participate in East Asian qualifiers, what if he fails ? he still has a very good position in the WR to win a ranking quota. but even if he wins a "ranking quota" that doesn't occupy a quota because he already has XD quota and the place will go to the next guy in the ranking. my question is can someone like him participate in the singles event ? someone who could win a ranking single quota but won a XD double quota before that.
  16. so Iran finished the 1st day with 3 gold and 1 bronze. that looks good on paper but we had a very terrible start and some narrow wins. things got better during the day though. Japan and Bahrain (Russian mercenary, World Champ Tazhiddinov) won other two golds. for some wrestlers it's part of their Olympic trials. they have to reach certain goals to book their Olympic ticket. for example Amouzad made the Olympic team by winning the 65kg gold medal here.
  17. IWF updated its website quickly. you can see the list of qualified athletes here https://iwf.sport/qualif2024/P2024_Qualification/ just note that the magician Djuraev will compete at 102kg, you can remove him from +102kg ranking
  18. sorry but both of those calls were correct or at least not wrong, Chamizo stepped on Bayramov's foot before that annulled takedown. yes I know they are not usually strict about this. but that's the rule and of course in Baku they would be strict in favor of the host wrestler. and if you watch it again, both other refs gave 2pts to Chamizo and didn't notice the legs. the mat chairman (who wanted AZE to win so badly) noticed that and talked other two refs into changing their decision. there was a reason why Chamizo didn't challenge that call. he knew that was a foul if we go by the book and that "pin" action. the ref below the whistle a moment before the action. I totally understand that was bad luck for Chamizo but I'm pretty sure that was just a honest mistake by the ref. that happened too fast and he has to caution/penalty Bayramov. I wish he could wait half a second more but he didn't. the action happened after/during the whistle. shouldn't be counted. and the first call which was obviously a mistake. I didn't see center ref giving 4+2. I only saw a 4 (and then they changed the camera angel) only the judge made that mistake. that was a huge mistake anyway. actions like that CAN NOT be scored 4+2. that's either 4 or 2+2. you can never score 4+2 in one action. to me there were 3 or maybe 4 big mistakes in this match, I can give a pass to the refs for two of them, but that 6pts at the beginning and the last call were crystal clear. cancelling those 2pts after watching the video was intentional cheating. I would call this match 11-6 for Chamizo (or 3 cautions disqualification for Bayramov)
  19. well actually the center referee and the judge did OK, they had some mistakes but it happens. most of UWW refs have a low level of IQ. the problem was mostly with the mat chairman (I couldn't recognize him by his face) even in the last action, he tried to change the decision of other two refs about giving 2pts to Chamizo but failed.
  20. why ? both yesterday call and today call was correct IMO in taekwondo, even 1 second is too much
  21. 2024 Asian Championship, Freestyle brackets are out https://arena.uww.org/weight-category/1eee02d6-2759-659e-9ff0-c71089015e53 thanks to UWW its far from the highest level of competition in Asia . most countries are fielding B teams in Olympic weights because of the Asian QT. still we can see some very big names who already qualified for the Olympics in the start list including 10 current World Champions
  22. I checked the entry list of Asian Champs and Asian OQT and except very weak countries (like SGP , IRQ etc) there are only few wrestlers in both tournaments, obviously Asian top wrestling nations have enough money to send two different teams.
  23. sorry but nobody touches Ibrahim Cicioglu. he is one of them. the last call was clear as crystal yet Mr Cici and his assistant Bouaziz said something else.
  24. this guy knows magic or maybe something better he weighted 101.7 kg during the Asian Champ in his home country when he secured his quota. but how is the even possible ? he was never anywhere near that weight. but all of a sudden he dropped 7kg and made a good total and then gained that 7kg back ? if that's not magic, then what it is ? https://iwf.sport/weightlifting_/athletes-bios/?athlete=djuraev-akbar-1999-10-08&id=14360
