    • From my calculations, the Men's Nebelhorn Trophy will be a mess, as :USA:RUS:CAN:FRA:KOR all have the right to enter a skater there. But, since two skaters qualified for the free skate but only earned one quota, there will be 7 spots available at Nebelhorn instead of 6. So it'll basically be the entire world's second-tier skaters fighting for two quota spots
    • Same with pairs as :CHN will definitely claim one of the 3 quotas, but I'm not sure if :JPN (also eligible) has another pair.
    • The women's will be much better though as while the :USA is a sure quota :AUT and :BEL don't have anyone else who would reach the WCH free skate regularly, so that'll be the world fighting for 5 spots.

Disclaimer: my calculations might very well not be exactly correct.

The battleground states in the women's nation's ranking after today:

I really wonder, and it's of rather big significance, whether or not Thailand, Australia and Armenia (and South Korea/Lithuania, sure) will send someone to the Engadin World Cup (if allowed, which is another question)...if they don't, that is absolutely Brazil's chance.

@heywoodu Could Brazil enter a women's relay? Any other Brazilian women in Europe? Shame Gabi Neres didn't make the trip.

  2. If I understand correctly, it's ironic that while it seemed like Bruna and Jacqueline Mourao were competing against each other for the Olympic spot, Jacqueline is the main reason Bruna still has a chance? Because she was the only Brazilian to score under 300 FIS Points at the Championships, and participating in the skiathlon and team sprint will give Brazil extra nation ranking points.

  3. I live in DC (10 min walk from the White House). It’s a mess. City under curfew. Lots of people rushing to buy food before it started. Sometimes you hear a siren or helicopter in the background.

See if there was proven fraud maybe this would be justified sort of like the protests in Belarus but the issue is he hasn’t conclusively proven any of his allegations and I’ve lost my patience with him. It’s not worth this. I really feel for all the law enforcement and first responders who have to deal with this now.

The worst part is most Trump supporters I talked to today are so behind him they’d do absolutely anything he’d ask them to do without hesitation. There were some nuanced voices and people with healthy skepticism but definitely the minority. It’s a problem everywhere in politics tbh but especially here.

I also think that today’s events will lead to one-party rule one way or the other. If Trump succeeds in staying in power he will try to solidify it, and if Democrats take power they will use today’s events as an excuse to severely restrict any future conservative opposition.

Jeez, these guys are still juniors for god sake ! some people are really such unreal primitives.

Damn. I thought it was only in Eastern Europe that those kinds of 'fans' existed...

Are you working for ATR nowadays, or are you just free-lancing from time to time?

Fantastic article by the way :yes

Thanks! Just free-lancing, I kind of just write them whenever I get an idea. Really if you or anyone else here would like to publish in ATR sometime, I'm happy to try and put you in touch, so do let me know. They're real nice and you get paid $100 per article.

    nice and interesting article...

    but...

but, tbh, I think you've been too soft versus the IOC's enormous mistakes and hipocrisy...

I'm not going to repeat myself making this post a pamphlet against the IOC's silly moves of the entire Rogge + Bach tenures, but I must say that I don't agree with the last sentence, too...there's nothing fascinating in watching something you've loved so much being deprived, dismantled, distroyed like Tokyo 2020 and even more Paris 2024 are gonna do...

I just don't feel any hype for those "new Games", I'm only very, very sad about what's going on...

I hear you. I was considering making it a hit-piece but it's a bit hard to do as someone just starting out. But you know, maybe you could write! Perhaps not in ATR but in your local newspaper or start a blog or something. Honestly my inspiration to write was to share many of the feelings people had here so readers could think a bit more critically about what the IOC does.

I've always thought 'fascinating' can mean captivating either in a good or bad way. Murder mysteries are fascinating but you wouldn't want them to occur again... haha

Here’s a draft of the charter I came up with for the games:

    1. Organization

      1. TBD

    2. Participation

      1. Participants must be registered members (hereby known as “users”) of Totallympics.

      2. A user must be an active member of the community in order to participate. An active member of the community is defined as a member who has participated in at least one discussion, or has participated in Totallympics sanctioned activities such as the Totallympics International Song Contest, or a Prediction Contest, within the past year.

      3. A user may be allowed special dispensation to participate in Totallympics Games if the community deems them eligible even if they do not fulfill the active user criteria; subject to the approval of the organizing committee.

      4. Participating users shall be respectful of all participants and officials.

      5. Participating users must be respectful when posting and discussing with other members on any of the Totallympics Games Thread.

      6. Users must meet all of the necessary eligibility requirements.

      7. If foul play is detected with respect to 7 (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), or (f) at any stage before, during or after the competition, the organising committee reserves the right to place the participation or result of that nation under review. These rules are not designed to exclude, only to ensure the Totallympics Games retain a distinct character, built upon a unique community atmosphere created by users of the forum.

    3. National Representation

      1. Users may represent one nation, and are not allowed to change affiliation under any circumstances after entering the games.

      2. A user may represent the nation of their birth, the nation they currently reside, the nation they are a citizen of, or the nation listed on their Totallympics profile.

      3. Violation of rules 3.a or 3.b will result in the disqualification of the user, and a voiding of their results. The user may continue to participate in the events and festivities of the games, but will no longer be considered an official entry.

    4. Event Program

      1. To be on the program an event must use an application, software, program, or activity that is reasonably available to most users.

      2. To be on the program an event must have at least 5 participants or more. In the event of a late withdrawal, an event may continue with 4 participants provided that all of the participants make the greatest possible effort to complete the event.

      3. Events must be conducted with the highest degree of organization possible.

      4. Failure of an event to meet criteria (a), (b), or (c) will lead to eviction from the program of the Totallympics Games.

    5. Amendments to the Totallympics Games Charter

      1. Amendments may be made to the Totallympics Games Charter.

      2. Amendments will be proposed by either the organizing committee of the Totallympics Games, or participants of the Totallympics Games.

      3. For an amendment to be approved, it must be passed by a simple majority vote of eligible voters. Eligible voters are defined as members of the organizing committee of the Totallympics Games, users who have participated in the Totallympics Games, users who are registered to compete in the Totallympics Games but have yet to compete, and moderators of Totallympics.

      4. Amendments may be changed from their original text, or discarded if a simple majority of eligible voters approve such action in a vote. Rules originally in the Totallympics Games Charter may also be subjected to the above actions.

Looks good! I am in New Zealand until August so timezones might be hard, but we will cross that bridge

    B) NO

    I don’t have a console so not sure how I’d do Mario/Sonic but that’s a good idea overall :)

Came across another possibility to add to the program. The eSailing game World Sailing uses for their Virtual World Cup is completely free download and play, and there’s the option for custom races in private lobbies. That’d be something worth checking out if people are interested in this idea.

That could work. I'm fine with whatever.

  9. 1 hour ago, Olympian1010 said:

I’ve spent way too much time on trying to prove that wrong, but the options are indeed limited.

The problem with option one is that I need at least 6-7 people to make it fun/worth my time. So 1 person (you) seems down to try it, and another user seemed willing to try it. I can look around for more players, but I know for certain that we’ll need more than 2/3.

Sure. Maybe make a dedicated thread about it and see what interest there is.

I’m going to just throw this out here, and see what people’s opinions are...

So obviously there’s no Olympic this summer. There’s most likely very little international sports this summer. Plus, there’s the probably there’ll be many us stuck at home voluntarily or ordered to. So I can (attempt) to offer the following alternatives:

As some of you know, I like to build mock Olympic Parks and Venues in the video game Minecraft. I’ve hours in the game recreating sports, building venues, etc. I would be down to host a virtual form of Olympics (called the Summer Games so the IOC doesn’t chop my head off) with either one of two possibilities -

The first is that I would some of you, or other interested players on to the my servers, and we’d just compete amongst ourselves.

The second is a little more complex and silly. I’ve been figuring out how to have a “playerless” Summer Games for a while now, and so I’ve come up with ways to have NPCs (non-playable characters) compete in events. I could host the games this way as well, and the NPCs could represent countries with members on Totallympics.

Both of these options would come complete with full “live” streaming, results pages, schedule of events, medal tables, games logo, games mascots, etc. I’ve been looking for ways for myself and @Vojthas to get some commentary practice, and I think this would be a fun way to.

I welcome everyone’s opinion to this. I will say that I will not bother with any of this unless some interest is shown from the community.

I mean archery/athletics/swimming/fencing would be easy to adapt. Could be creative with the others as well. Soccer you could push a minecart around on rails or something. Sailing could just be a boat race. Biathlon could involve shooting buttons from a distance.

When I was in high school I made a 'stadium' with four waterways and did an 'inter mob aquatics championships' where I basically measured which mob got to the end of the waterway first. Then I did the same thing with items. I don't remember what the fastest mob or item was, haha.

But a Totallympics Minecraft Games sounds fun honestly, I'd be down

Interesting, they used the French flag when they competed in Barranquilla. I wonder if they’ll switch over now? I’m not really in favor of them completing since their actually a full part of the French Republic, but whatever.

Yeah they can't actually display the flags because they're wholly unofficial. All the same they are represented by the unofficial flags most places online, including NORCECA, Wikipedia results and even Apple emojis.

I agree it's weird for them to compete as they're basically like what Hawaii is to the US. Then again we might start to see Hawaii in the Pacific Games so...

  13. 2 hours ago, Olympian1010 said:

Well technically their flag is the French tricolor. There are a full part (department/state/province/prefecture (don’t know the nomenclature here)) of the French Republic.

Very true, but each department has an unofficial flag used for sporting events. Martinique's council adopted this new one (and a territorial anthem too!) It used to be the snake flag.
