  1. Am very proud of them! In 2019 Finland was obviously better, shots were 43-17. This time the Czechs outshot Finland. The only obvious difference was you could tell Finland had experience with these kinds of games and we did not, too many errors and missed opportunities. For the Olympics because of how the groups work, unless Russia or Switzerland surprises, we can only fight for a medal if we beat Canada/USA/Finland in the quarterfinals. Not likely we'll finish 4th unfortunately.
  2. I was too idealistic... This'll be interesting then. Assuming Austria doesn't rise from the dead, now is Olympic-qualified if they win tonight in regulation.
  3. The head-to-head game. Assuming beats both and , if they have the same # of points Slovakia wins. If they all have 6 points because they all beat each other, then it's head-to-head score.
  4. Austria 2:0 Belarus at the end of the first period. If doesn't beat in regulation time and beats today, Slovakia's 100% qualified, right? @hckošice
  5. Huh. I guess Polish TV’s definition of a shot is way different!
  6. YES!!!! They may not get to the Olympics but this would certainly help Slovakia...
  7. If Slovakia loses out on an Olympic place to a team ranked below Spain and a team that bought a third of its players from North America, this will be a great injustice.
  8. Oh you're right, they did! I honestly must not have found it last time I looked in the archives. Also they always show junior and under-18 world championships too... just not women...
  9. The saddest thing is I don't think Czech TV has ever showed a game of the Czech women. They only show women's hockey when it's at the Olympics, which is crazy. BUT I wrote them and they said they might show the women's Olympic qualification in Příbram. "dle vyjádření Redakce sportu se s českými zápasy z příbramské kvalifikace hokejistek předběžně počítá."
  10. I didn't write it the federations didn't give me good enough responses
  11. That's great! Shame it was too late for Bermuda/the Nepalese marathoner but at least they realized. IMO universality places shouldn't be included in the World Ranking... hopefully they will fix that for later events.
  12. I'm not sure this is a story we would cover unless it's really blatant corruption (vs. just a disputed selection process) but if Joanne/Sameh wants to reach out to the content editor with a pitch for a story, they definitely can. http://aroundtherings.com/site/303/About-Us/Contact-Us If they do I'll let the editors know.
  13. Around The Rings, I am interning there. Thank you everyone for your ideas. Main thing now is to get a quote from one of the athletes. Have reached out to a couple, so will see if any reply, and then a story can be done.
  14. @dcro @Jur @Makedonas @JoshMartini007 @LowerSaxony I'm thinking of writing a story about World Athletics denying non-100m athletes universality spots... people deserve to know about it. If anyone knows of any other cases where athletes were denied spots and replaced by sprinters, please let me know! So far we have Tyrone Smith (long jump) and Gopi Chandra Parki (marathon), but I bet there could be more. In the 100m start lists, eight athletes I found are specialized in other events, according to World Athletics records. Women: (400m/800m), (triple jump), (100m hurdles), (400m hurdles) Men: (5000m/10000m), (1500m), (110m hurdles), (800m/1500m)
  15. I must’ve had two heart attacks. Incredible how the Czechs collapsed in the last minute and then bounced back. All the momentum should’ve been with Canada but they overcame!
  16. Yep and they have another woman (Sara Carnicelli) who was injured. So... 1/15th!
  17. Results are below (they're at the bottom because they technically aren't official competitors). Replay: Championship of the Small States of Europe 2021 - YouTube
  18. will take part in its first official international sporting event tomorrow. It is sending a team to the Athletics Championships of the Small States of Europe (taking place tomorrow in San Marino). Papa Francesco incoraggia Athletica Vaticana a testimoniare la “cultura della fraternità” ai Campionati di atletica dei Piccoli Stati d’Europa (San Marino, 5 giugno) | Athletica Vaticana
  19. I'm pretty sure it's 10 teams like last time. Czechs in my opinion are sure to qualify. (currently ranked 1-6) will definitely be there. (7) doesn't have an Olympic-caliber ice dancing team, and Zandron will have a very tough time qualifying for the men's event anyway (8) to my knowledge doesn't have any active pairs teams (none have appeared at their Nationals since 2018) (9) will almost certainly qualify either a woman or a pairs team at Nebelhorn, so they should make it (10) has no men, pairs or ice dancers (11) it would be a miracle if either Hallam or Jones/Boyadji qualified, given how few spots are in play for men/pairs (12) have already qualified in 3 events, so they will be there (13) have a strong pairs team and ice dancing team, at least one should definitely qualify at Nebelhorn (14) Czechs as it stands are #10, the last qualifiers, and will only need at most one additional quota for ice dancing (15-20) are all missing Olympic-level athletes in at least one discipline, so even if they overtake Czechs on ranking points, they shouldn't be a threat
  20. It's not a bad theory but just reading the paragraph it's quite a stretch. "ISU Members who have earned the necessary points according to Rule 378, paragraph 2b) and c) will have the right for two (2) or three (3) entries if, in addition, they had two (2), respectively three (3) Skaters/Pairs/Couples qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance in the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG."
  21. 3. Twenty-four (24) entries for Ladies and Men, sixteen (16) entries for Pairs and nineteen (19) entries for Ice Dance will be determined according to the classification outlined in paragraph 2 above. ISU Members who have earned the necessary points according to Rule 378, paragraph 2b) and c) will have the right for two (2) or three (3) entries if, in addition, they had two (2), respectively three (3) Skaters/Pairs/Couples qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance in the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. The remaining entries under this paragraph 3 will be attributed to the ISU Members with the best placed and qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance Skaters at the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. 4. The remaining open entries available will be filled by ISU Members in order of their placements at a Senior International Competition designated by the ISU and conducted in the autumn of the calendar year immediately preceding the Olympic Winter Games. The open entries are available only to: a) ISU Members which have not previously earned an entry, for only one entry per such ISU Member. b) ISU Members which have earned the necessary points for two (2) or three (3) entries but did not have two (2) respectively three (3) Skaters qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance at the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. Such ISU Members are entitled to enter one Skater in the qualifying event who, however, cannot be a Skater that had qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance at the World Senior 30 Championships immediately preceding the OWG. I don't know about you all but this seems to obviously say to me that 24/16/19 entries will be given out at the World Championships and are not 'reserved' for the Nebelhorn trophy. If not then both Brezinova and our pairs team miss out...
