  1. Algeria never got the quota, only one nation competed and they did not meet the minimum requirement at the 2023 World Championships.
  2. But yeah, if I had full control (and an extra 1000-1500 athlete quotas) fencing would be bumped up to 12 teams and individuals would have 48 fencers.
  3. Yeah, Canada's team chances right now pretty much rely on the United States to rank in the top 4 and then make sure we finish in the top 16. The exception of course is women's team foil, but that will likely regress back to the mean once this generation retires.
  4. Historically, Morocco has not had a good relationship with the African Games due to its stance on Western Sahara. It was only in 2019 that they were allowed to return.
  5. Didn't want to get confused with World Archery and World Athletics I guess.
  6. won a quota in men's -97kg, we are up to 11 nations with a quota. will have a chance in the -125kg, but Egypt will be the heavy favourite.
  7. There's a good chance Samoa may not be eligible for a tripartite quota next Olympics. Team sport quotas don't count, but individual wise they are up to four and along with the five quotas you listed, they will also likely get a spot in judo and maybe in taekwondo. With that said, they haven't made use of tripartite quotas in a long time so it's not a big loss.
  8. qualified in -65kg, this is now the best performance by Oceania nations ever since they combined the African and Oceania qualifier.
  9. I saw a race like that when I was a kid and was very confused. That's when I learned freestyle meant any kind of stroke.
  10. They have one athlete in men's freestyle. The stronger is competing though and hopefully will qualify their first athletes tomorrow.
  11. I think Rckaela is the better wrestler and with no Nigerian in this event it was seen as the best option to maximize their chances. Lucky for Mia, she also avoided Nigeria and now both get to compete at the Olympics
  12. 2014 Youth Olympian Mia-Lahnee Aquino qualifies to her first senior Olympics.
  13. No full women's team for Nigeria, though she'll have a chance at the final qualifier, depending on the draw.
  14. Might come down to whoever wins gold at the Pan American Championships in April
  15. Unsurprisingly, North Africa dominates Greco-Roman. Freestyle should be a little more diverse.
  16. Four Oceania nations are competing in men's -67kg Greco-Roman and they all ended up on the same half of the bracket. Algeria likely wins the quota though.
  17. Yeah, for as heartbreaking as 2012 was, it did put the women's national team on the map.
  18. Will the first set of draws be tonight or tomorrow morning?
  19. She's 65 points away from the top 400, plus whatever she needs to defend. Tough, but doable if she gets some traveling funding. She would probably need a few semi or better performances at the W35 / W50 events.
  20. Women's volleyball is another bad example. Even with continental spots the women have not qualified unless Canada or the United States were host. Funny, enough 2024 is our best chance in a long time and if we qualify it won't be because of a continental spot. After a more in-depth search, I believe only football and shooting would be missed. 26/32 sports is still more than most nations.
  21. Even if Canada was in Europe, we'd still be in most sports. Like easily 20+, likely around 25. Off the top of my head, we'd probably fail to qualify in shooting and football. Among disciplines we'd probably miss open water swimming and canoe slalom. Everything else we'd have a representative. Yes, Canada benefits from not being in Europe, but we are still good at qualifying.
  22. The tripartite quota on the women's side is quite competitive. Currently in the top 400 we have: Lina Gjorcheska (239) Danka Kovinic (241) Kathinka von Deichmann (277) Francesca Curmi (311) Sada Nahimana (336) Victoria Jimenez (364) While I would love Burundi to get the quota and help boost tennis in Africa, Liechtenstein might force the tripartite committee's hand. They aren't eligible to send a swimmer and they don't compete in athletics (when was the last time they competed at a World Championships?) so without a tripartite quota they won't compete at the Olympics. Outside of tennis their most likely tripartite quota would be in mountain biking. Also Liechtenstein has a higher ranking than Burundi so that may also play into their hand.
  23. Japan might be forced to use some of their relay only swimmers in the individual events. They are only allowed up to 12 relay only swimmers.
  24. If they split up the West Indies it could be a good tournament. Not sure if there's a cricket field in
