  1. Dark horse defeats Hungary in the semis. Spain will be tough, but they are at least in a good position to qualify tomorrow
  2. Huge opportunity for both teams to qualify.
  3. I think the NOC gets to pick which quota to decline. In a logical world they would keep the event in which they ranked higher, so Israel keeps sprint while Suriname keeps keirin. However, they are ranked similarly in both so I wouldn't be surprised if both choose to keep the same event. I imagine there will be a lot of lobbying from nations on the edge for them to pick the other event.
  4. Top seeds are getting it done so far, though Hong Kong needed all seven sets to beat Poland.
  5. The Pan American Championships starts today. If Canada wants to qualify in doubles we'll likely need to win gold in those events.
  6. Women's team recurve qualification results - 1965 - 1928 - 1925 - 1919 - 1902 After that there's a big drop. As a reminder, Mexico is unable to win the quota so should they win the event, the quota will go to the silver medalist.
  7. Men's team recurve qualification results - 2032 - 2029 - 2008 - 2004 - 1990 - 1976 After that the scores dramatically drop.
  8. Draw for tomorrow is out, see here. The first two tournaments are seeded based on world rankings. Winners will qualify to the Olympics. The third and fourth brackets will be seeded based on the performance from the first two tournaments (losing finalists will be the top seed, etc.). The winners will also qualify to the Olympics. As are not competing, they will qualify through the world rankings on May 7th along with two more nations.
  9. Not too surprising. Prize money at the Olympics was eventually going to happen. Hopefully, it will be the IOC that takes the initiative eventually. This might help encourage some tennis players to take part, though 50k isn't a lot. That's around what the winner gets for a 250 event. Still better than nothing (including no ranking points).
  10. We're at the half-way (108 arrows) point of the men's team recurve qualification. Here's the top 5. - 1017 - 1016 - 999 - 994 - 994 The gold medalist will qualify to the Olympics.
  11. I'm not sure, the way the qualification document was written doesn't explain what happens. We'll have to wait and see what World Archery says. Asia was smart as they held the team qualifier before the individual qualifier. Either the next highest ranked athlete will qualify or the quota will be reallocated to the final qualification tournament.
  12. Comparing what Ghana hosted at the African Games and what was on the program at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, we are missing cycling (mountain and track), diving, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic), lawn bowls, netball, powerlifting and squash. We may be able to fit gymnastics, netball, powerlifting and squash in venues which had events not part of the Commonwealth Games. It looks like Ghana has a pre-existing mountain bike course and possibly a place to host lawn bowls. I'm unable to tell if the swimming venue also has diving boards so that and track cycling may have to dropped from the program or given to a different host.
  13. So sad to see what was once one of our top sports being reduced to just a few boats.
  14. Top 3 after the qualification round Men D'Amour Arcila Ticas Women Esebua Chenier Espinoza
  15. Three quarters done (54 arrows), the top 3 are: Men D'Amour Arcila Flossbach Women Esebua Chenier Barrett
  16. At the half way point (36 arrows), the top 3 are: Men D'Amour Arcila Ticas Women Esebua Chenier Pagan
  17. Qualification round is currently going After 24 arrows the top 3 for men are D'Amour, Arcila and Enriquez while for women it is Esebua, Pagan and Chenier The finalists qualify to the Olympics. Also the team quota will be decided during the actual Pan American Championships held later this week where the winner will qualify (except Mexico in the women who are already qualified, then the quota will go to the runner-up).
  18. We are down to 50 nations remaining. I'll do some fun facts tomorrow. The first one is, we still have three non-triparitite eligible nations remaining:
  19. Quite a few upsets in the women's sabre as both the top 2 ranked athletes have lost. The semifinals are: v v Argentina is the favourite now.
  20. Cuba was the big winner from this championships. Not totally unexpected, they only had one quota going into the event and typically they are one of the strongest nations in shooting after the United States
  21. What happened to Keith Sanderson? He's gone 1/10 in the final so far.
