  10. Honestly, I’m always happy to see a player miss a penalty when they do some silly stop and go before kicking the ball. To me that’s poor sportsmanship. Rooting for the draw to really complicate the group.

  13. I have to repeat again, I like you personally, I just didn't like the way you handled it, when you delete something you have to notify the user and explain the reason. even though I still don't accept your reason, this is not my fault if someone can't stand a simple question. and that wasn't a series of anything, cuz I wasn't going to respond, I never respond to personal insults , and yes I feel offended and that was disrespectful and I never stay anywhere when I feel disrespected, this is what I always do, offline or online. I accept this and I'm not quitting the forum but I'm still upset about this. I hope it never happens again. btw I had forgotten there is a "ignore list"

  16. I missed all the posts but guys, keep calm. We spend a lot of time and posts for say that politic must be out from the sport and he have issues on this... We aren't party leader or national presidents, i think that whit a pair of words we can resolve this awful situation without do an international drama or something like this. (PS. Every post that is remove, at least that it does not contain insults, for me must stay on the forum or it's censorship. We aren't youth teen in adolescence, c'mon guys )

  17. I see. I have no problem to apologize, I am sorry if you feel offended, it wasn´t definitely my intention. Once again I wast just doing my job stopping a stupid childish discussion and by this I removed all posts involved in this situation, so also the starting post (which, once again wasn´t purely offensive, but just started the series of insulting and offensive answers) that´s all about the reason of the posts removal. and it was purely my own decision so I take the whole responsibility about it. Hope you´ll consider it as a sufficient apology

  25. Don't see it coming, Nigeria on paper looked only better than Saudi Arabia so far. I expect 0 pts for them. Getting all the action through Moses is predictable and easy to stop. The keeper can't put the ball into play at all and is a huge liability.

  27. Also used in french (not very common). Much more common, is the use of the word "fanny" when a team or someone is scoreless in a game or a tournament. The origins of the expression are rather nebulous, but it has been popularised through the world of pétanque of the early XXth century when the losing team had "to kiss fanny ass" as some kind of a punishment. Nowadays, It's used in sports as in everyday life. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrasser_Fanny

  31. Funny story about the Peruvian coach. Gareca was the man who eliminated Peru from the World Cup qualifiers 1986 scoring the 2-2 equalizing goal for Argentina that qualified ARG instead of PER. The guy was not even selected for the tournament in Mexico which Argentina as we know won. Now he is finally at the WC and on the bench of Peru

  45. I knew about "fica" because I watched an interview with singer Mafalda Minnozzi (she's moderately famous in Brazil and she speaks Portuguese quite well) and she said she brought her parents to visit Brazil once and the first thing that was said to them was "fica a vontade" (literally "stay as you wish", but it actually means "make yourself home"). I can imagine they have a bad opinion about us and our fascination about "fica". Also, we use the word "figa" in Brazil to refer to the gesture of putting your thumb between your index and middle finger. I was told this gesture is quite obscene in Italy, but in Brazil it means a way to superstitiously protect yourself against curses and bad luck (and it was appropriated by African-Brazilian religions as a way for one to protect oneself from bad things).

  46. I've got many - right now I'm doing a Hungarian-Polish-English sport dictionary for my master's degree, so the topic is really interesting for me. For example searching for "scissor kick" in football (called soccer in AmE) in Hungarian I found word "ollózás", which means scissoring. I checked in Google, if ollózás is really, what I'm looking for and... well, it is, but among the movies showing such a spectacular kick there were some... lesbian intercourses. The one with "basket" ("kosz" in Polish) seems to be a case in many languages, for example "rzucić kosza" (throw a basket) means to score. As well as @Gianlu33 said about Italian, we also use "fight" in all sports. In field hockey the stick is called "laska", which is also popular word for an attractive, young woman (probably because of the slim shape of a stick, not only in field hockey, but also the one used by elder people to help at walking). The word "canoe" (not the kayak) is "kanadyjka" which means (written with capital - "Kanadyjka") the Canadian [woman, girl...]. The ski-flying hill is called "skocznia mamucia" which means "mammoth hill". Also the "body check" came to Polish in a form of "bodiczek" (in Hungarian it's also "bodicsek"). My theory (maybe someone might confirm) is it was used by Czechs and Slovaks, which are the most hockey nations in our region, in original, English form, but as it sounds very Czech/Slovak, we adopted it as the word of Czech/Slovak origin, which is (at least in Polish) important because of declination. In modern pentathlon, before the name "laser-run" was introducted we used the word "kombajn" in everyday talk (rather not in official press reports), because it sounds like a "combined" which was the name of the event of run and shoot. "Kombajn" is a word for a harvester machine. Also Russians used such a word (our languages are quite similar) and when I typed the Russian texts about competitions to Google Translate it translated as "food processor..." About such a funny stories as @hckosice said about hole, our biggest sport journalism legend, Bohdan Tomaszewski, once said about Irena Szewińska "Pani Irena nie jest już tak świeża w kroku jak kiedyś" which may mean to thing - "she's not as fresh in stride as earlier" (which is what he meant as she was a runner) or "she's not as fresh in crotch as earlier" (which is why the sentence is so funny). Another double meaning, also by Mr Tomaszewski, about our cyclist - "Ryszard Szurkowski - cudowne dziecko dwóch pedałów" - "Ryszard Szurkowski - a wonderful child of two pedals" ("pedał" is also a vulgar word for homosexual).

  48. I've been away from here for a bit, but there was a lot of Athletics news for team Lithuania. Andrius Gudžius broke his PB two times and it's 69.59 now. Adding to that, he won one diamond league meeting and placed 2nd in two others. Airinė Palšytė is starting her season soon after a long hiatus. Two Lithuanian records were broken, both more than 20+ years old: 1500m. Simas Bertašius 3:40.41 and 200m. Agnė Šerkšnienė 23.21. Agnė has also ran 400m. in 51.32 bringing her up to second in the European ranking and a potential medalist at ECH with only her second competitive season after giving birth. On top of that, Athletics level is rising in our country as many youth and junior records are being broken left & right and center in disciplines such as 100m/200m. women, men and women discus, 800m. boys, pole vault boys and girls, men's shot put, women's 400m. Hurdles, Heptathlon, Decathlon and others. On top of that, there are still more senior records that are in danger for this season, not counting the ones that have already been improved: Men's marathon, women's 400m., women's triple jump, hammer throw, race walk 20/50km and some less likely ones such as men's/women's javelin throw, women's high jump.
