In Malta the water polo league is played in summer. So it is given more exposure by local media since other leagues from other sport disciplines will be on their summer break. There are about 10 teams split up equally in the 1st and 2nd division. Each team is allowed to have one foreigner in their team and the 1st division teams often engage a world class player from Hungary, Croatia or Serbia who have also won Olympic medals and world championships. This has helped to raise the level of water polo in Malta. All national team water polo players play in the local league apart from one player who play in the Italian top league. Being an island surrounded by water is also a factor that attracts youngsters towards this sport.

yes, well, her plan was to finish in beauty at the Olympics, but as you know our team really struggled in Korea, so this is a better idea IMO to say the "Good-bye" in a special last world cup race. btw she will have one more farewell party later in Slovakia the 7th April in Jasná, Her team organized a special shortened parallel slalom where she invited all her friends and important persons in her private and sporting life (Petra Vlhová already announced that she will participate too) and Veronika will ski one run with them all. more here in SVK https://www.jasna.sk/ru/zanjatija/iventy/go-zuzu-v-jasnej/
