  5. I need to consult all the Totallympics family of course but I think I would be proud to hand one of TISC's loyal serving members, our @dezbee2008 an opportunity to welcome us to her part of the world. I would love to put on another edition from Ireland and welcome you all here again but I know there are so many of you who wish the same thing and want to have the opportunity to express your creativity and I want to encourage that. @mrv86 was right, there was once a rule in place about rankings determining who gets to host next and this was taken away last time because there were so many people expressing a wish to host, including previous hosts. The compromise was to weigh the game of luck in favour of new candidates (all the previous hosts were put into one pot and the new candidates in other pots so their chances were increased. I don't know how you all want this decided but I would be glad to have your opinions because as you know, these matters are never easy for one person to make a call on.

  9. Nice!! I see that Portugal ended up on 19 place with quite a bunch of points Given the fact that it was a full instrumental song (not sure if it was the first time ever here) i knew it would be difficult to get points, so I am really happy that a few of you really did like the song! As I always say, my goal on this contest is to show you the best portuguese music of different genres, and if at least one of you like it, I consider my goal achieved (now i have to think about which music genre I will pick next time ) Also I would like to congratulate the winners, Ireland, and the organizers, Tunisia, but most of all, congrat France and USA, as their songs were (apart from well known Enrique Iglesias) the only ones that I really did like this year

  10. Wow, 3rd place, and to think we led for much of the voting round, it was funny that we never left the top 3 (or something like that) the entire time. Also, not bad considering Dia Frampton was a last-minute choice, so I didn't know how it was received, but it seemed to be overwhelmingly positive, and for that, I am grateful. 19. Anyways, as promised to @Bohemia I'll try to post some of my comments on this year's entries and sorry that I'm not able to talk about each one. I think it will be easier for me to go down my voting list first: Brazil - As I've mentioned, Brazil's video was blocked for me, so during the 1st listen (before it was fixed) I was listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THGwdK8zu_4 Anyways, what I loved about this entry was its simplicity, the acoustic guitar was music to my ears, his vocals were just where they needed to be, the chorus was very catchy and the melody of it was amazing, which is why I was hooked on doing harmonies 24/7 and yes, I enjoyed this far more than the over-produced version. United States - Another song that made it directly to the upper bracket after the first round. Enjoyed the tone of her voice, it was pretty distinctive out of the others, good chorus, nice melody and instrumental. The Netherlands - Another song to go to the upper bracket after stage 1. Somehow when I heard the first few chords of the acoustic guitar, I had the feeling that I would enjoy this and I wasn't wrong. I think that this song has the same key as Brazil - its simplicity. The vocals are controlled, the melody is good, I think I just saw it as slightly less than Brazil, that's why it's third. France - Another song that quickly went to the top without much moving around. The drums and guitar at the start promise something interesting, her vocals are good, the instrumental is great, yeah, perhaps it is a bit monotone, but the production of the song is very high class, which is why it's up here for me. Estonia - It's been a while, so I don't know what to expect from Estonia. It's starts with a calming piano and fairly ok female vocalist and then the man joins and I know it's a duet, so the most important thing becomes the harmonies, the pre-chorus/chorus thing is nice, but the harmonies at the end is what bought me over, nice melody. Chile - Honestly the most haunting/bizzare entry in this TISC, but it's the right kind of bizzare. The interesting instrumental and the colour in her voice is what makes this memorable and interesting and it stands out. Also, this song was a grower, because it originally was lower on my list. The start of the song is still my favourite part. New Zealand - Do-do-do-do-de-de-de-de, do I need to explain myself more why this song is up here? Also, very nice guitar action, I approve. The vocals are also pretty decent and charming in their own way, reminds me of something that Denmark has sent in a previous competition that I adored. Canada - Hallelujah is one of those songs that pretty much make me sick every single time when I hear it, but that's probably since it's a go to song for everyone during musical competitions (had to perform this one myself too). The thing that took me in, was the magical performance. The vocal control is amazing, those extended notes were perfect, the vocalist knows when to press forward and when to tone it back and I really respect that. Argentina - Okay, so Argentina really stood out from the bunch being one of the songs that chose upper-tempo. I remember hearing the start to that instrumental and thinking "okay, what's coming, what's coming, will it be good or will it be bad?". Then I heard the vocals and they were great, the song really woke me up, as I've said, it stood out with its energy and the chorus was fairly nice. India - Not really a country that has made a huge impression on me in previous editions, only a couple of times close to my points, but when I heard the intro, I already knew that it would score at least some points. Even though I'm not a big fan of how Indian singers use their voice, it didn't bother me that much this time and sounded pretty nicely, but that part with the voices is gold. Indonesia - Started fairly high, but then gradually fell down to two points as the songs above it had more distint character and this song struggled to make an impact on the songs that had a strong identity, that's why it kept falling down in my list. Czech Republic - This is where my head starts to hurt, because I had 4-5 different songs on 1 point at every single listen, but it ended with being Czech Republic. The vocals are fine, I enjoyed the wind instruments joining in the chorus and that might have tipped it over. Ireland - In my points during the first three rounds, nice instrument work, the song is good at what its aiming for, but I guess it was something that I heard a million times before and it gradually fell down compared to the songs that brought something fresh into my perspective. Colombia - Not bad, but perhaps I have something against popular songs? It was considered for points at a few times, but somehow didn't connect with what I was looking for in my top twelve and got stuck in the reserve list. Malta - Malta is one of the most interesting countries to me. I probably had them in my reserve list for more than 4-5 times, but there's always a small margin that keeps them out of my top twelve. I guess it ended up losing in the battle of the choruses. Iran - Pretty decent entry, loved the guitar intro. Last year Iran was very close to my points, but I think it was a much much better song (as I believe the quality 6 months ago was much better). Anyways, Iran did good enough to get noticed, so I guess that's nice, since they're always up there in my standings. Tunisia - A song that I lost somewhere, the intro was too telenovela, I don't also enjoy the constant vibrato of the vocals that is prominent in most Arabic music and that probably put me off. Algeria - Metal is just not in my blood, there are some exceptions, but Algeria wasn't one of them. Slovakia - Wouldn't call this a memorable song, didn't really make an impression, didn't have that something to rise above other songs. Serbia - Can't say that it's bad, but it's pretty bland, didn't stand out of the average category and the dance beats are off-putting. Great Britain - A country I always expect greatness from, but this time I got sentimental sadness, plus I dislike the classical voice position, because I think that's a technique where a voice loses its colour and character. I love how you went with something different, but it didn't make an impact on me, so the song couldn't climb. Mexico - Fun instrumental, interesting concept, but not good enough to challenge anyone in my top 16. Uruguay - A song that suffered from its shortness, didn't have enough time to show something good/memorable enough to make an impact on the rankings. Slovenia - This is that POP that I dislike with a passion. A bland mess with cheap beats. Croatia - After the last contest I started expecting something interesting. Can't say that it's bad song, good instrumental and vocals aren't bad, but just lacked a bit of character, easily got lost amongst other songs. Italy - Nice instrumental at the start, promising, but underwhelming vocal line and the song doesn't really go anywhere. I MISS THE ITALY THAT GOT POINTS FROM ME IN EVERY SINGLE CONTEST. LIKE REALLY REALLY MISS THAT ITALY, as I still have some of your older entries on various playlists. Denmark - I love the way Denmark always sends something interesting, the intro of the instrumental is good and the vocals are not bad, but unfortunately it is something that I had to re-listen against in order to remember what the song was about and why it didn't move forward in my rankings. Anyway, Denmark usually surprises me once in half a year so fingers crossed for next TISC. Portugal - I enjoy instrumental music, but in order to outrank the depth of the other songs that have vocals and lyrics in their advantage, the instrumental has to be BEYOND amazing. This one was good, but not that sort of amazing that would beat a melody or a story. Spain - I don't think there are words that would describe my general disinterest in what Enrique Iglesias does. Throughout so many years, there's no musical evolution for him, everything is the same, the lyrics are always eeeeeeeeeh and I should stop here before I rant further. Greece - The instrumental didn't appeal to me, this vocal technique is not something I particularly enjoy and in the Tunisia's, Turkey's, Greece's and other countries that overuse this style, Iran and India had a much bigger impact. Turkey - Another song that I struggled to remember. Poland - Ok, firstly, this type of beat always brings me down, because it makes the music sounds cheaper, so a big minus on production. Another pet-peeve for me is very very simplistic/meaningless lyrics and broken English. This is why I probably prefered Polish entries in Polish. Also, the forced 'rap' part didn't feel necessary. Romania - The Eastern European pop production vibe was never too appealing for me, this is why such songs have trouble to score in my list. This is why I prefer such countries not trying to chase the "Western Standards", but sending something authentic that's them, because that's usually a better choice. Really liked Romania last edition, they were my 1st reserve, I think. Bulgaria - That pretty much falls down the Tunisia, Greece rabbit hole. Iran and India were much better at this type of style, so Bulgaria didn't leave me with fond memories. Anyways, I believe that's all. T'was tough work.

  24. This is what the quota situation looks like after the second of four world cups. I exclude the time ranking for all events except the men's 10000m and the women's 5000m. Max number of athletes is 3 per event for the 500m, 1000m, 1500m and the 3000/5000m while it's 2 per event for the 5000/10000m and the mass start. A country can have up to ten skaters if they qualify in every event, otherwise the limit is eight. Women: 500m 1000m 1500m 3000m 5000m MS TP MAX 1 1 2 4 1 1 1 3 3 2 3 2 2 2 X 10 2 2 1 2 7 1 1 1 1 1 2 7 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 X 4 1 2 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 X 10 3 1 X 4 1 3 3 3 2 2 X 10 1 1 1 3 1 2 1 X 4 2 3 3 3 2 1 8 1 1 1 1 1 3 2 2 2 1 2 8 Men: 500m 1000m 1500m 5000m 10000m MS TP MAX 1 1 2 1 1 3 2 2 2 2 1 X 10 1 1 2 2 1 1 2 1 1 2 1 2 2 2 7 3 2 1 X 6 3 1 3 2 8 1 1 3 2 1 1 1 2 X 10 1 1 2 3 3 3 3 2 2 8 1 1 2 X 4 1 1 3 2 1 1 X 9 1 1 1 1 4 2 3 3 1 1 1 X 10 1 1 1 3 3 2 8

  26. My opinions of all the songs, i presume i listened all more than 10 times , please: dont be ofend, is only opinion about a single song from your country and nothing more. MY TOP 14 New Zeland: Wanderer take some “risky” to choose a very old song than the rest, from the beginning i like too much and im not a big fan of the 60s music, i was in my house and even in the work singing the “tu ru ru ru ru”, excelent choise, sadly the other part of the argentinian jury dont think the same, that mentioned risk makes for me to be sure of the first place will be for “the kiwis”. Ireland: like most of the contest, Ireland has an excelent song to present and the 3 of us think the same, an interesting rock song, thanks for this kind of music Dan. Something curios for me: the guy who is more in the left is a clon of a very crazy lawyer of my city. Portugal: another risky bet, in this case from Kungshumara, the song must inspire something and this song is good to inspire sadness, make me remember our Tango, another great chooise. France: the clip and the lyrics are wire but sounds very good, specially the music, i like too much the french songs of this year and for that reason i considerer “underrated” both. Croatia: im not sure because i dont remember well all the croatians songs but probably is what i like more of all, is a lively song from beggining to the end and its in their own language (in some ocations sounds me italian, i dont know why). Slovenia: a “pop american song”, sounds very good but dont have nothing of special (lyrics, music, etc), it was the last song of the “top 12 sures songs” from the first listenings. Romania: another underrated song for me, the lyrics is simple, really simple, but sounds very good too, i acept if somebody says “an american copy from Eastern Europe”, the clip and the flag of U.S.A makes that easy Greece: the first time i listen sounds “wire” and i dont like, with the next listenings i start to apreciate,is repetitive but i like the music (the voice of the Singer is normal) and is a representative song, it sounds very “greek”. Poland: a good pop choise from Rybak, sounds good but i like less than Slovenia and Romania. India: the best indian song i remember from the contest, best even “Chalo Chalo” from the first contest i participate, combinate well the english with the bengali i presume its bengali (correct me if i am wrong), this song inspirate me optimism. Malta: Im sure i listened this song in the past and thinked it is American, a good rock song from Glen “Robinson” (sory but your nickname remember me that NBA player) Algeria: the polemic bestmen choose a metal song, i like the beginning and the end and anothers parts of the song but i hate when the singer scream, for that reason is here, in another case it will be more in the top. Turkey (first reserve): a very underrated song for me, up-tempo song, exotic, very “turkish” and intensive all the time, for a very few dont enter in the top. Estonia (second reserve): a lovely song, with good voices from both singers (specially the women), is the first time i listen the estonian language, for my girlfriend this is the best song of the contest, i hope we continue having Estonia in the contest. SONGS I LIKE AND I DONT VOTE OR AT LEAST DONT DISLIKE Iran: its a quiet song, perfect to be “background music”, not bad but not good to be in the top, is a less level song than the song of the first Iran contest. Spain: i dont like Enrique Iglesias but probably this is one of his best songs, it will be dificult for him to be in my top 12. U.S.A: a typical american pop music song from a country which have really great music, its close of my top 12, it has a funny clip for me. Colombia: a song i never like too much and i listened many times, i must explain the “easy joke” it has about fascism in some ocations. Brazil: a too simple song from our neighbors for me, i normaly prefer their songs in their language and more similars to their type of music. Uruguay: another too simple song from our another neighbors, for me they have a lot better music than the music of Ruben Rada and his candombe, i understand if she wants to show something typical of her country. Serbia: a country from i listen many good songs, in this case it was too common, not bad or not good, some parts remembers me songs of Worlds Cups or Olympics Games, it was close of my top. Lithuania: an interesting bet from Werloc, knowing that he probably cant win with this song, the first times i listening not only i not like it, i hate it, in fact the lawyer of the next office of mine sayed in some ocation: “please, shut down that song, is terrible” and he never did something like that before, another friend of mine who know a lot of music listen all of them with me, when he listened this songs his face change, he turns too serius suddenly, i aks him: what happen?, and he said to me “only for connoisseurs”, and after that sayed: this songs probably only like to people who are very interested in music and like this style, the rest of the people probably dont like it, he search info from the band, a video of the recitals and things like that, i dont see him do that before, he explain me what is this style, things like Soda Stereo apears after for this kind of bands, etc. I dont vote it but its not a bad song at all, i understand Intoronto or another people who hate it, i hate it the first listenings like i sayed. SONGS I DONT LIKE Slovakia: im not a fan of ska and its sounds discordinated between the music and the lyrics, i dont like it from the beginning. Great Britain: from a country of great music i listen this chorus (im not very interested in them) and it was a automatical deception, one of the firsts songs i discard. Canada: the same of Great Britain but with a song i listened many times and dont like, another easy discard. Mexico: its not a good rock song for music, song and dont understand well the lyrcis dont knowing what is “Pachuco”, i will google it. Indonesia: my girlfriend love it and i hate it, a too slow romantic sound, in this case (dont happen to me in anothers songs), the language sounds wire too. Denmark: good voice and music but TOO slow for my taste. Netherlands: Im not very romantic (my girlfriend recriminate me that) and this songs name is“i love you more”….it was complicated with me from the beginning, a few times in my life i listen something more romantic than this, it is a too a very quiet song. Bulgaria: from a country i have expectation and remember some good songs of the past, this year is bad, i dont like this song from the first time i listened and never change my mind, is it gypsy? Tunisia: it seems a song from the opening of a arabian novel (and the clip dont help nothing in that perception), not bad but it is too far to be in my top 12. Italy: in all the contest i only see one song that seems to me “too Little serious” to be in the contest and it was the Colombian song “Te quiero Mucho” of Naty Botero, that song was the last in that contest and dont surprise me that at all. The first time i see the clip and listen the italian song……..i cant believe it, i think: what the fuck was that?, is this a joke?, and for that reason i talk about a “joke song”, i dont know why you choose thins songs italians but i dont understand with all the good music you have. My face with the italian song:

  31. Once again I was too busy to be with all of you yesterday, but I took the time to read all post in few hours today. If I am not mistaken, this is second time has finished in top 10, which was my primary goal, second one was getting to 100 points, missing by only seven. I know my choice was a little too "pop extreme", and I confess, Tina was the reason to put this song in the running. It was very risky, could well ended up with being victorious or place it well in the bottom, so I have to be satisfied. Thank you so much for giving me 12 points, thank you all others noticing our song. Thanks to @amen09 for organizing such great event, I know it is not easy. Congratulations to my good friend @OlympicIRL for another win though this was probably the first time winning song did not get even close on my list. As always, I will be posting final standings according to official Eurovision counting (top 10, without 9 and 11 pts). I can tell you that only by a single point.

  33. no major mistake...it was a question of blades...it was quite "hot" (relatively speaking, of course) and there was a light snowfall going on, so, as usual in this condition, our sleds were not so good... that's why I wrote that Igls can't be a site good for WC competition so early in the season...it's quite unfair to the whole pack of lugers... however, you can watch by yourself all the runs (D-Fisch starts his second run at 1h02min in the video)... https://video.fil-luge.org/index.html

  38. Again !!!!! Congratulations @OlympicIRL for the win!! Obviously Italian Jury gave a ponit (only 1..) for the winner (but Ireland risked a Zero: the 11th Uruguay, was so close at Ireland, was behind of 1 pt ). The first seven nations of ranking has received points from our jury Italian committee has choised a "difficult song" , we knew it would be difficult to have a high ranking, but don't cares, the fun is join in the contest, next time will be better. Thanks @amen09 for the show! PS: Thanks also at the "producers" that had help him (and make these contests great): @vinipereira for the logos, and OlympicIRL for support.
