At last night's talk show, we were shown that the Netherlands can still go to the World Cup and being eliminated means nothing They had several good options. Option 1 - Pretend to be Belgians 1. When Belgium goes to Russia, their bus will drive via Prague, as shown in the spoiler below 2. Near Prague, there's a tunnel, where one is always in a traffic jam, and that's our chance; 3. We hijack the bus, put on some Belgian clothes and ride on to the World Cup 4. Work on the accent and nobody will figure it out Option 2 - Remove Iceland 1. After some checking, it turns out Iceland is actually an island and has no physical connection to any large land mass 2. This makes way to the option of attaching Iceland to some big boats and pulling it away 3. Pull Iceland all the way to Florida so it's part of the US and, since the US didn't qualify, a spot in the World Cup has now opened up! Option 3 - Kiss Russia's ass 1. Next year, the Netherlands will be in the UN Security Council, which opens up this entire option 2. We'll promise to vote for whatever the Russians vote for if they let us go to the World Cup Option 4 - We grab that World Cup 1. We're going to the World Cup Final and we're going to take the Cup 2. They always place the World Cup close to the field, which is our chance, since we've all bought tickets for the final 3. Rafael van der Vaart will act as a distraction for the fans 4. Arjen Robben is really fast. He'll dress up as a fan and outrun everyone to grab the Cup 5. Once we've got the Cup, a gold-painted Wesley Sneijder will be put down there as a disguise for the Cup, so nobody will notice the back switcheroo And that is how the Netherlands might be elimited, but is not even close to being out of the World Cup

Choong and Muir are only ones I'm sure of - their participation is confirmed on PentathlonGB webiste. Maybe (just suppose) Prasiantsova, who doesn't participate in U24 Europeans, though Belarus sends strong team. Maybe, they are training normally As well as Italians Maybe Schleu, I'm not sure but I think she wrote something about it few weeks ago on Facebook. Schöneborn married not so long ago, but last year Khuraskina came to CISM World Championships right after her honeymoon and won it. They also don't send anyone to U24 Europeans to Drzonków, though this age category is also for Marvin Dogue, Christian Zillekens and Alexandra Bettinelli. Maybe Özyüksel, there was some competition lately in Turkey, seems like National Championships (unfortunately I didn't check it in details), so they may be training now normally. No go: Nowacka, who is on holiday in Balkans. We have this U24 Europeans in Drzonków, so other seniors might come to support their younger colleagues. And all our national team coaches will be there, so probably only Maliszewska might come with her club coach to Doha (but I doubt it, as her boyfriend, Stasiak, will start in her home city and there was no document of selection signed by sports director as it is usually done for the UIPM competition, which is all competitions instead of the only commercial one - Kremlin Cup, and CISM competitions). Kovács is on holiday in Rome, Földházi seems not to train now as well, she took part in some "BBQ World Cup". Bence Demeter had hip surgery. In fact I doubt any of Hungarians will be in Doha - both "association captains" (they call their main coaches this way in Hungarian) are to come to Drzonków. Though somebody might go either without a coach or with a club coach. Hefny has some pain and doesn't run - posted on Instagram photo from horse riding training. Kuf was on some trip in mountains, even if it was part of training, not the kind it should be done few days before competition in the desert. They had holiday lastly, I think - some of their women's pentathletes posted photos in bikini by the sea in last days/weeks, so I suppose they wouldn't start in a competition without training.

Argentina goes to WCh after beating Peru 3-1. As always with the women's team, I'm more happy about beating the south american rivals than about actually going to the big events (because our team will only be a punching bag there), but anyway...

3 dead, 365,000 homes without power.... national emergency declared and all public services and almost all places of employment are closed across the whole island. Schools will remain closed tomorrow. I am returning to Ireland by ferry tomorrow morning from Scotland. Hoping it won't be cancelled as the storm is coming this way tonight.. It's worse not being at home during this in a way, you feel the worry more when you aren't there and just relying on updates. The storm is expected to hit my home place in the next hour so am keeping in contact with family to see how things are.
