Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)
LowerSaxony and 5 others reacted to orangeman for a topic
So instead clean athletes from every other country now suffer. Even clean athletes from Russia will not be taken seriously in Rio. No one will trust their accomplishments, and worse they will be blamed for taking medals away from more deserving competitors. Maybe that is unfair to clean Russians, but they have no one else to blame but their own national Olympic committee. The irony is that Russians believe they are being treated unfairly due to politics, when in reality if this was a small or less powerful nation, like India or New Zealand, they would have been banned months ago when the whispers first started. The only reason Russia is getting away with this is because it is Russia, and if they want to stop being accused of cheating then they should stop cheating. The victim card is getting old.6 points -

This rule about not being allowed to enter an athlete into the Olympics who has previously served a doping ban should be extended to all nations, then cheats could not compete on the biggest stage of all3 points -

It's about paying for your crimes. Sochi might be done and over but being banned as a nation because as a nation you cheated your way to 13 gold medals would be a fit punishment. It'd send a message that this kind of shit is unacceptable. Going with "what's done is done" is irresponsible sick enabling and a mockery of the effort and sacrifices clean athletes go through during every 4 years cycle.3 points -
That room looks perfectly fine too me. Some media will write anything to make hosts looks bad.2 points

Zakarin can also be added to the list of people who won't participate. 3. The ROC is not allowed to enter any athlete for the Olympic Games Rio 2016 who has ever been sanctioned for doping, even if he or she has served the sanction. Lol, people are sick of Efimova, I'm sick of Gatlin and Gay. But these guys will participate and fight for the medals. About volleyball - I think that Russia will participate, president of FIVB had said about it earlier.2 points

Well the "good" guys tried, but missed. The whole situation of this state doping was for Sochi and it presumably ended after Sochi. So why didn't they demand all russian Sochi athletes to be DQed after those rat holes and whatnot? What has that situation have to do with Rio. Well Summer Games are way bigger than Winter. And they are now, which is huge. They would have made a mockery of Russia in front of the whole world, for something they did in the past. And it failed. I'm sure the higher powers are not happy. Erasing Sochi results won't have the same impact as this full ban would have had.2 points

And yet we had cases like Sharapova. Clearing them in five minutes is unprofessional, they are supposed to make individual analysis of each athlete.1 point

The IOC had that rule (Osaka Rule), but it was overturned by the CAS, like most jurisdictions you only get punished once for the crime you commit. This is why I think this will be overturned, assuming someone tries to fight it.1 point -
Sure, and the clean russian athletes that were gonna be banned and there sacrifices during the 4 year cycle? Or because they are russian they dont have the same rights as other athletes? Banning someone for something he/ she hasnt commited is hyprocracy. Anyone that tests possitive should fully take the punishment, but banning them beforehand, just fullfills other agendas than only clean sport.1 point

Pantano who just won a stage in the current tour. I don't know who'd take his place in the time trial during day 5. It still depends on some medical test he'll take after the tour is over.1 point

The decision is not so bad like somebody wants. But unfortunately we lost a lot of athletes with this politicians games. I hope IAAF can create new rules and we can see at least Isinbayeva, Shubenkov, Litvinov, Kuchina in track and field. But Olympics is still stay alive!1 point

Every time a Russian steps on a podium in 2016 there will be whispers. The IOC's fear of harming the Olympics has just discredited dozens of events. Maybe they should hold a special ceremony for the 4th/5th place people from now on.1 point

I don't care about blue track to be honest...what I find the most important things when it comes to formalities are these: - Medal ceremonies right after the event, so the emotion is still there, the athletes are still tired instead of a day later when the emotion has passed - The same music for all ceremonies, so you really get this "Olympic feeling" with every ceremony - Medal ceremonies at the venue where the medals were won The clothes that the medal presenters are wearing...I couldn't care less1 point -
Cowards. They've failed olympism and clean athletes. This is your legacy, Mr Bach.1 point

In general, I don't know if I like this so much...I wish all medal ceremonies would be sort of formal. Not formal like without smiling of course, but formal in the sense that it's clear this is the big stage, not some funky hip-hop local street competition.1 point -

I think Russia will perform in most sports (except athletics, weightlifting and swimming). The only thing I want to athletes competed under the flag of Russia, otherwise it would be a repetition of 1992, when there were already a broken country.1 point -

Badminton federation as well if I'm not mistaken, although that's not so important seeing as Russia won't win a medal there anyway normally I do expect the Russian NOC to be banned, but I also expect most Russian athletes to be in Rio (under Olympic flag).1 point
