Agree, and he probably is one of the best overall at the Pan Am games.

Looking at the stats, also Guilherme Giovannoni was outstanding for Brazil at the FIBA Americas !

Sunday evening a scrimmage of Brazilian team was planned with host Mexico.

But Mexican team didn't show up and nobody from its staff gave any explanation.

The reaction of Brazilian team was of course both surprised and quite disappointed for this unpolite behavior.

More on this curious news here.

USA won their last gold medal at the Pan American Games 28 years ago in Caracas, Venezuela.

That team was made by young collegian stars, as it was a time when NCAA wasn't so depleted from talents as it si now.

Headlight of the 1983 USA gold team was a rising junior player from the University of North Carolina named Michael Jordan.  Other future stars joining "Air" Jordan were, among others, teammate Sam Perkins, youngster Wayman Tisdale, Leon Wood, Chris Mullin, Michael Cage, Mike Price, Ed Pinckney.

The team, even without the services of ace Chris Mullin, who injured his foot short before the tournament and of strong Michael Cage, who just played 2 games before leaving for family reasons, went on undefeated on quest of gold winning all 8 games. The final was played with Puerto Rico and it ended 101-85 for USA.

Jordan led his team in scoring (17.3 PPG), followed by Tisdale and Perkins. The trio, together with Leon Wood and Chris Mullin, would also lead the US team to the gold in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

1983 PanAm Games US team story is recalled in this interesting article.

All close games yesterday, also Brazil widened its margin over Uruguay just at the end.

A bit surprising Canada's win over Argentina, even though no big names are included in the South American squad.
Canada has sent almost the same team that got the silver medal at the Summer Universiade.
